I don’t know about you but I love mini vacations. Don’t get me wrong I love going away where it involves long road trips or planes but sometimes mini ones are just what you need, even if just for a night.
If you’re looking for something to do, or to get away then you should head down to Niagara Falls. They have their Winter Festival Of Lights going on right now and it goes on until January 31st 2019.
Hubby and I have been before but that was years ago. I thought it would be fun to take the boys so that they could see all the lights. We had so much fun and the lights are just amazing to look at.
The Winter Festival Of Lights is hosted by the Ontario Power Generation and has become a yearly tradition. The lights are on a 8 km route and start at dusk and end at midnight. They even have illuminated seesaws that when you sit on them and they are in motion they will light up and make sounds. They are really cool to see.
My favorite display was the Passage. It is made up of 20 illuminated circles that you can walk through. It has sounds and will change colors ranging from red to blue to even multicolored. The concept behind it is that it is supposed to allow you to connect with your emotions. We actually walked through it a couple times because it was just so amazing.
Where we stayed
I wanted to be close to the falls and Clifton Hill but not too close so that we were not right in the crazy hustle and bustle. Courtyard By Marriott is the perfect location for just that. Close enough to everything that it is just a 5 minute walk and far enough away from the busyness that you can relax.
This was the first time we have stayed at a Courtyard By Marriott and we loved it. Our room was so spacious it was perfect for the boys to play and more then enough room to fit the pack and play for Little.
They offer a buffet breakfast that you can get at a very affordable price and children under 5 eat free. Bonus! The Keg is attached right to the hotel so if you love a good steak dinner that is the place to go!
They also have a great pool which we obviously used and the boys loved!
What we did
The main reason we went was for the Winter Festival Of Lights which was nothing short of amazing. All we kept hearing was “wow wow wow”, Little’s new favorite word. He is obsessed with looking at lights and decorations. It was cold so we ended up bringing our favorite double stroller and full snow gear plus blankets for the boys to keep warm.
We had dinner at the Rain forest Cafe. If you have never been to one before you should go. It is incredible, you feel as if you are dining in the middle of the rain forest. They have moving animals, sound effects even thunderstorms.
On Clifton Hill we went on the Sky Wheel. I was a little surprised when Sweets said that he wanted to go on it. For anyone who doesn’t know it is a giant Ferris wheel that will give you an amazing view of the hill and both the American and Canadian Falls. You sit in an enclosed little pod and during the colder months they are heated which is so nice.
The highlight for Sweets is always the Great Canadian Midway! He loves playing the games in there. They even have cute little rides for the littles.
If you are looking for a little getaway then you should definitely look at going to Niagara Falls while the Winter Festival Of Lights is on. You won’t be disappointed.
I hope you enjoyed this post. If you did please give it a share.
